MTN DISCONNECTS UNREGISTERED LINES AND LOSES 4.5million NIGERIAN SUBCRIBERS

A report from Bloomberg has confirmed the number of subscribers that has been disconnected by MTN.

The company had to cut off 4.5 million unregistered subscribers in Nigeria so as to tread with caution following their recent drama with the NCC. In general, MTN’s customer base decreased by 1.4 percent to about 229 million across 22 countries. Bloomberg reports. According to MTN’s Executive Chairman Phuthuma Nhleko

“In order to mitigate any future regulatory challenges, the group took an exceptionally conservative stance by disconnecting all subscribers who could possibly be deemed to be non-compliant. This has had a significant unfavorable impact on total subscriber growth and revenue in the first quarter.”

MTN currently has 30.08 million subscribers in South Africa and 57 million subscribers in Nigeria.

Of course, you can expect MTN to do whatever it takes to improve the numbers. So start expecting some promos coming your way.
